Joanne Petrina is a fine art and documentary photographer from Seattle, Washington, currently based in Singapore. She studied photography at the University of Washington and the Photographic Center Northwest. Joanne has for many years been producing photographic narratives that are primarily humanistic, aiming to shed light on unseen communities, preserve cultural heritage and address social justice issues. A signature of her work is a close and engaged relationship with her subjects. Joanne is a recipient of the Open Society Institute distribution grant for Documentary Photography in 2007. Her work has been funded by public arts and heritage foundations both in Seattle and nationally. She has exhibited in numerous galleries, her work has also appeared in a variety of public spaces, including international airports, cultural centers, government buildings, universities and medical centers. Joanne is currently working for the Earth Observatory of Singapore, at Nanyang Technological University.
